Bill Gates, Sheldon Adelson and Warren Buffett, three of the richest men in America issued a statement for the New York Times to support Immigration Reform and in particular they applaud the EB-5 Program!

Mona Shah & Associates appreciates this statement as a ground-breaking announcement. It not only gives credibility to the EB-5 program, but also recognizes the proficiency of the program. There are numerous success stories which are overshadowed by the few questionable or dubious projects. The article also points out that EB-5 is no longer an esoteric subject but is now in the Zeitgeist—the spirit of the times and thus prominent in the mainstream news.

The letter states “People willing to invest in America and create jobs deserve the opportunity to do so. Their citizenship could be provisional — dependent, for example, on their making investments of a certain size in new businesses or homes. Expanded investments of that kind would help us jolt the demand side of our economy. These immigrants would impose minimal social costs on the United States, compared with the resources they would contribute. New citizens like these would make hefty deposits in our economy, not withdrawals.”

The letter criticized the counter-productive attitude of Washington, since the loss of Eric Cantor in the Republican Primary in Virginia and calls for the long overdue Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

Given the severe backlog for employment based skilled workers immigration, for candidates from countries such as China and India, the letter calls for “a ‘talented graduate’ reform that was included in a bill that the Senate approved last year by a 68-to-32 vote. It would remove the worldwide cap on the number of visas that could be awarded to legal immigrants who had earned a graduate degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States, provided they had an offer of employment. The bill also included a sensible plan that would allow illegal residents to obtain citizenship, though only after they had earned the right to do so.”

The Supreme Court decisions of Citizen United and McCutcheon changed the landscape of campaign finance laws. The wealthy can pour money into American politics more easily to influence the public policies. The authors only hope that sensible and open-minded business men, despite their difference in the political and ideological belief, will bring a polarized Congress back to their senses.
