Delays Ahead at U.S. Consulates: DOS Database Crash

According to the Department of State (DOS), a computer glitch in a key U.S. DOS database is causing delays in the issuance of visas and passports at U.S. consulates around the world. The Consular Consolidated Database (CCD) system is massive, containing millions of visa files, photographs, and links to other federal agency security databases.

Once a U.S. Consular Officer approves a visa, the application must be recorded and the visa cleared and printed through the CCD. Until the system is back on-line, Consular Officers are unable to issue and print visas. This may cause hardship to applicants waiting on visas and passports.

DOS is working ungently to resolve the problem as soon as possible and has made continued progress on restoring their systems to full functionality and prioritizing immigrant cases. Visa applicants who are unable to obtain a passport should be prepared for lengthy delays.
