Election 2012: Who Has Your Vote?

Election 2012 is right around the corner with voting taking place on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Just recently, the third and final presidential debate between President Obama and Governor Romney took place at the Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida, which primarily focused on foreign policy issues.

For the candidates, this was a chance for President Obama to make a come-back from his poor performance in the first round of debates and for Governor Romney to show that he possesses true presidential qualities. However, in this close presidential battle, President Obama still has my unequivocal vote. As seen and heard at the latest debate, the President casted Governor Romney as “unseasoned in foreign affairs,” which is absolutely correct. President Obama has spent four years in office, taking over what was given to him by the former Bush Administration – a war, which led us into a precarious and unstable economy. And with this, the President took out Osama Bin Laden and pulled our troops, bringing them home where they belong, from the Middle East. Who do you want leading our country –someone who gets the job done or an inexperienced governor who frequently waivers in his decisions?

As for immigration, Governor Romney is firm on strict immigration policies, even mentioning the concept of “self-deportation,” which essentially refers to processes intended to create insurmountable hardships for undocumented immigrants such that they would take it upon themselves to leave the U.S. And yes, during his term, President Obama deported more immigrants than ever before, approximately 400,000 a year. However, President Obama’s administration has made a positive step towards the possible passage of a DREAM Act sometime in the near future. This summer, President Obama issued an executive order for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), as a discretionary form of relief for certain qualifying individuals, who came to the US as children through no fault of their own, to be able to lawfully remain in the country for two years without the threat of being placed into removal (deportation) proceedings. Such individuals are also generally eligible to receive work authorization from USCIS. In doing so, the administration has instead aptly focused its energies on seeking to remove undocumented immigrants who are criminals and pose a threat to society.

Further, Governor Romney is determined to dismantle Obama care and he does not believe small class sizes make a difference in education. Also, a huge concern for many is job creation and our economy. It may have seemed that Governor Romney had the edge by gaining the support of small businesses, but after the President’s approach during the second debate, many look towards the creation of jobs through the EB-5 immigrant investor visa program. In fact, one employer said, “That’s good for our economy.”

Here at MSA, we encourage all US citizens to exercise their right to vote. We are the people of the United States and this is our chance to make a difference.
