Prime Minister David Cameron’s Failure Towards Immigration Reform.

In mid-January, Prime Minister David Cameron presented six core themes in his Conservative election manifesto, in hopes of dominating the Tory campaign. Those six themes were: The deficit, Jobs, Tax levels, Home ownership, Education, and Retirement. The one theme he failed to mention in his manifesto was Immigration.

Cameron planned to curb immigration benefits, and demand in what he referred to as an “emergency brake” on EU migration to Britain, but as he found himself unable to work with the EU, and other Conservatives to his position, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, he decided to pull back on his proposed Immigration Restrictions.

Although Cameron felt immigration was not the most important topic to focus on, citizens of the UK feel otherwise. A significant number of polls from a variety of sources show immigration as one of the greatest concerns for voters across many demographics. In a recent YouGov survey, when Britons were asked to list the most important issues facing the country, 52% of those surveyed cited immigration. A January 2014 Ipsos MORI report cited similar results, showing 70% of Britons viewed immigration as a national issue.

If the Prime Minister David Cameron is to win for a second term, he must push for further reforms. Otherwise many will express huge disappointment.
