USCIS Unveils Forms Improvement Initiative

USCIS recently announced improvements to a number of its online forms, which may be accessed from the agency’s website.  The forms are published in a two (2) – column, Adobe fillable format, which will restrict incorrect entries and provide informational pop-up boxes to assist form users once the forms are electronically completed.  Some of the currently available forms include: (1) Form N-600, Application for Certificate of Citizenship; (2) Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card; and (3) Form I-601, Application for Waiver of Grounds of Inadmissibility.  Other forms will be made available shortly.
Other mentioned changes as part of this initiative include:

  • Including comprehensive instructions in plain-language on forms
  • Centralizing filing locations at USCIS Lockbox facilities, which provide fast, secure, and standard intake services for the millions of forms filed with USCIS annually
  • Publishing high-volume forms with 2D barcode technology to improve data quality and operational efficiency.  The barcode at the bottom of the forms stores data in USCIS’ systems when entered electronically.
  • Improving web content, by posting filing addresses and detailed fee information on the landing pages of USCIS forms.  A copy of the latest fee schedule is available here.

Additional information on the initiative is located here.
