DREAM Act & Religion
To promote the DREAM Act, religious groups across the nation are urging congregations to focus their service on the importance of helping undocumented students who came here to the US as children. The act will help give legal status to those who have continued their education or have military service in good standing, are long-term US residents, and have good moral character. Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois (D) initiated these events to raise awareness of the act, and many hope that this pressure will lead Congress to support the bill. These observances will take place on weekends from September 16 through October 9, 2011 in churches, synagogues, and mosques. It is encouraged to have DREAMers at the events to tell their stories.
